# How does MealSnap calculate my calorie goal?

> Your goal comes from your age, height, weight and activity level, adjusted for the pace you picked.

## The formula

MealSnap uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula to estimate your resting burn, multiplies it by an activity factor, and then adjusts for your goal. Losing about 0.5 kg a week means roughly 550 kcal below maintenance.

## Safety first

Goals never drop below a safe floor, and a target weight that would be unhealthily low triggers a caution with a safer alternative.

## Macros too

The plan also sets a protein target of about 1.8 g per kg of body weight, with the rest split between carbs and fat.
