How accurate is photo scanning?

For most everyday meals, photo scanning lands within 10 to 15% of a weighed estimate. Close enough to guide your day, and far better than not logging at all. Plated meals with visible components scan well: a bowl, a plate, a sandwich. The scanner identifies each ingredient, estimates portions from the photo, and shows calories with protein, carbs and fat. Hidden ingredients are the usual gap: oil in a stir-fry, butter in a sauce, sugar in a dressing. Soups and stews also hide their contents. After a scan, adjust any portion or use Fix with AI to correct the result in plain words. The estimate updates right away. Packaged foods have exact labels, so scan the barcode instead. For a meal you cannot photograph, describe it in plain words and MealSnap estimates from the description.

How do I log a meal without a photo?

The camera is the fastest way, but never the only way. Tap the plus button and choose Describe meal. Type or dictate something like "two slices of rye bread with hummus" and the AI estimates calories and macros from your words. Know the numbers already? Quick add lets you enter calories and macros directly and pick the meal moment: breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. Meals you saved as favorites can be logged again in one tap. Handy for the breakfast you eat five days a week.

How does barcode scanning work?

Point the scanner at a product barcode and MealSnap looks it up in the Open Food Facts database. Barcode results use the product label, scaled to your serving size. Because the numbers come from the label, this is the most precise way to log packaged food. Open Food Facts is a community database and does not know every product. If a barcode comes up empty, describe the product or use quick add with the numbers on the label.

What is menu scanning?

At a restaurant, you can photograph the menu instead of your plate. Open the scanner, switch to menu mode, and photograph the menu. MealSnap reads the dishes and estimates calories for each item, so you can compare options before you order. Pick the dish you chose to log it. Estimates for restaurant food are rougher than for a photo of the actual plate, and that is fine: a rough log keeps the day complete.

How do I edit or delete a logged meal?

Every logged meal stays editable. Open the meal from your day. Tap the name or any macro to edit it inline, or use the servings control to scale the portion. All macros rescale with it. If the scan got something wrong, tap Fix with AI and say what happened in plain words, like "that was brown rice, not white". The meal is re-analyzed with your correction. Swipe left on the meal card, or open the meal and choose delete.

Why does the same meal scan differently?

Two photos of the same meal can produce slightly different estimates. The AI estimates from what it can see, and lighting, angle and how the food is arranged change what is visible. Small differences between scans are normal and average out over a week. For meals you eat often, save the meal as a favorite once and re-log it from Favorites. You get identical numbers every time, in one tap.

How does MealSnap calculate my calorie goal?

Your goal comes from your age, height, weight and activity level, adjusted for the pace you picked. MealSnap uses the Mifflin-St Jeor formula to estimate your resting burn, multiplies it by an activity factor, and then adjusts for your goal. Losing about 0.5 kg a week means roughly 550 kcal below maintenance. Goals never drop below a safe floor, and a target weight that would be unhealthily low triggers a caution with a safer alternative. The plan also sets a protein target of about 1.8 g per kg of body weight, with the rest split between carbs and fat.

Should I hit my calorie goal every day?

No. The weekly trend matters more than any single day. A birthday dinner or a big lunch does not undo your progress. What moves your weight is the average over weeks, not the outcome of one day. Log it and move on. Skipping the log is the only real mistake, because unlogged days hide the pattern you are trying to see.

Why did my calorie goal change?

MealSnap keeps your goal honest as your body and data change. After about two weeks of logging, MealSnap compares what you actually ate with how your weight actually moved. If your real burn differs from the formula estimate, it offers you an updated goal after a weigh-in. You decide whether to apply it. Changing your goal, pace or weight in settings also recalculates the target, so the pace you picked stays realistic.

How do I change my goal or pace?

Goals are not a one-time choice. Adjust them whenever life changes. Go to Profile, open account settings and choose New goal. Pick losing, maintaining, gaining, building muscle, or simply eating with more awareness. For weight loss you can choose about 0.25, 0.5 or 0.75 kg per week. The recommended middle option is the sweet spot between speed and sustainability for most people.

How does the Routine tab work?

Routine is for the meals you eat on repeat, so regular days log themselves. Add a meal to your routine and pin it to a meal moment and the days of the week, like oatmeal every weekday breakfast. MealSnap fills the coming week ahead of time. Every day stays editable. Ate something else? Edit or skip that day from Today and the rest of the week is untouched.

How do I add my own recipes?

The Recipes tab is your personal collection, built the way you cook. Snap a photo of a recipe page and MealSnap converts it as written. Rebuild a recipe from a photo of a finished meal. Describe a recipe in your own words. Or enter it manually, ingredient by ingredient. Recipes are saved with per-ingredient macros, so logging a portion is exact and instant.

What are Fit to goals and Cook mode?

Two small tools that make your own recipes more useful. Fit to goals rescales a recipe portion to match the calories you have left today. The recipe itself stays unchanged; only your portion adjusts. Cook mode shows the steps one at a time in a large, kitchen-friendly view, so you can cook without scrolling with wet hands.

How do streaks work?

A streak counts consecutive days with at least one logged meal. Log anything and the flame stays lit. Any logged meal counts: a photo, a description, a barcode or a quick add. A day with nothing logged resets the streak to zero, and your personal best is always saved. Streak milestones unlock achievements, from your first logged meal up to a 100-day streak.

How do I log my weight?

Weigh-ins live in the Profile tab. Open Profile and add your weight. The trend line updates right away, and you can attach an optional progress photo to the weigh-in. Daily weight swings with water, salt and timing. The trend over weeks is the number that reflects fat change, so judge progress by the line.

What are progress photos?

Optional photos attached to weigh-ins, for the progress a scale cannot show. Add a photo when you log a weigh-in. The gallery collects them over time and the compare view puts any two side by side. Progress photos are stored in your account and shown only to you. Nothing is shared anywhere.

Which widgets does MealSnap have?

Your day, visible without opening the app. Daily Tracker shows calories and macros, Quick Calories shows what you have left, and Streak shows your current run. Lock screen widgets show the calorie ring, calories left or a macro summary. While a photo is being analyzed, a Live Activity tracks progress and a notification tells you when the meal is ready.

How do the free trial and plans work?

A MealSnap subscription unlocks all AI features: photo scans, meal descriptions, menu scans, AI corrections and AI recipe tools. There is a yearly and a monthly plan. The yearly plan includes a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, so you can try everything before paying. Prices are shown in the app and billed through the App Store. MealSnap reminds you one day before a trial converts, so a forgotten trial never surprises you.

How do I restore my subscription?

Subscriptions follow your Apple ID, not your phone. Sign in to MealSnap with the same account, make sure the device uses the same Apple ID, and tap Restore purchase in account settings or on the paywall.

Question 20

How do I cancel my subscription?

Accepted Answer

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, so cancelling happens in your device settings. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then MealSnap, and choose cancel. Your access continues until the end of the period you already paid for.

Question 21

I have a promo code. Where do I enter it?

Accepted Answer

Promo codes unlock MealSnap without a subscription. Go to Profile, open account settings and choose Promo code. Enter the code and your access is applied to your account right away.

Question 22

How do I delete my account?

Accepted Answer

You can delete your account at any time, straight from the app. Account settings has a Delete account option. It removes your meals, weights, progress photos, recipes, favorites and personal profile details. For security, the app may ask you to sign in again first. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. If something in the app made you want to leave, we would honestly love to hear it first.

My photo is still analyzing. What now?

Analysis runs in the background, so you never have to wait on a spinner. Most photos come back in about three seconds. A Live Activity shows the progress, and a notification arrives when the meal is ready. A weak connection is the usual cause. Check your internet and try again. If a scan fails, you can always describe the meal instead so the day stays complete.

A barcode is not found. What now?

Barcode lookups use Open Food Facts, a community database that does not know every product. Use quick add with the numbers on the label, or describe the product in plain words. Both take seconds and keep your log complete.

Question 25

I am not getting reminders

Accepted Answer

Meal reminders are optional notifications for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Open Settings, then Notifications, then MealSnap, and make sure notifications are allowed. Reminder times are configurable in MealSnap. The defaults are 07:50 for breakfast, 11:50 for lunch and 18:30 for dinner.
